Hi! I'm Pablo Ampuero Ruiz. I'm currently a doctoral researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut für ethnologische Forschung in the German city of Halle, Saale. I received my master's degree from Peking University and, before that, I did a bachelor on History with a minor in Political Science at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, in my native Chile.
My current work deals with the dynamics of solidarity and exclusion among domestic migrant workers in Shenzhen. During my academic career, I have engaged in projects dealing with intercultural communications between Chinese and Chilean businesspeople, social transformation in post-Mao China, and modern Chinese intellectual history.
My photographic work reflects on my interests as an anthropologist. I seek to document social transformation from the experience of sentient human beings. My images have been featured in National Geographic Viajes, Lofter (乐乎), and in different publications about China.
I also host a podcast called Todo Bajo el Cielo, where I try to bring the knowledge and discussions about China and East Asia to Spanish-speaking audiences.
